Trips, conversations and clinics
About the LCCC online calendar below
If it is scheduled in advance, it’ll be on the calendar below. The LCCC calendar below is a great place to check dates for the online Safety Series, the online Take Out Talks, upcoming clinics, and annual events like the North Umpqua trip in September. It is not the best spot for figuring out who is going boating this weekend.
Where do I find a group to go boating with?
Since our day trips are entirely dependent on weather, flow, and other factors, they are hard to schedule in advance. But rest assured, club members are paddling with one another as often as two or three times a week in peak season. For planning day trips with fellow club members we use the LCCC Google Group, which is limited to members only. There a member will post something like, “Who wants to paddle the Lower White Salmon this Saturday?” Interested members respond via the Google Group and easy as that, you’re going boating with a bunch of friends. The club also hosts a Facebook Group for members and friends where people occasionally connect to find boating buddies.

LCCC Klickitat Self Support Memorial Day Weekend

Enjoy a fun-filled weekend on the Klickitat River! This trip will be a 3 day, 2 night self-support trip from Parrot's Crossing (aka the raft put in) to Icehouse Access. We will travel through the deep Klickitat canyon, camping on remote beaches along the way, admiring towers of basalt and soaking up some rays in the sunnier climes of eastern Washington. Depending on the flows, this run ranges from class 3 - 3+.
LCCC Kayaking Clinic with Sage Donnelly
From the Lower White Salmon to the Middle White Salmon. Spend the morning on the Lower White Salmon working on skills, then after lunch, you’ll have the option to take those skills and apply them on the Middle White Salmon.
The afternoon portion of the class is “challenge by choice.” It is entirely reasonable to only participate in the first half of the course, and/or to make your decision about running the MWS that day.
This course is a great fit for people who currently feel they have the skills to tackle Class III whitewater, but often don’t because they don’t know how to approach more complex rapids and /or don’t have the support network to feel comfortable pushing harder.
LCCC Kayaking Clinic with Sage Donnelly
Fine tune foundational skills on the Lower White Salmon with Sage Donnelly. In general, what you can expect includes: a chance to identify and begin to fix bad habits; a focus on skills such as reading water, picking lines, posture, stroke timing, and boat angle; and encouragement to try lines you don’t normally take and catch eddies you usually pass right by.
To get the most out of this class, you should be generally proficient at paddling the Lower White Salmon, or equivalent runs such as Dodge to Oxbow on the Sandy, Packsaddle to Mill City on the Santiam, or the run on the Washougal below Big Eddy to MP3.
LCCC Whitewater Safety Day
Members John Maroney, Alyse Oxenford and Teresa Gryder offer this day for members to practice some important first aid and safety skills. There’s no charge, and no certification, just good old-fashioned community education.
