LCCC Wild and Scenic Rogue River Self Support 3-Day /3-Night Adventure

Trip Coordinator: Bruce Eicher

LCCC Wild and Scenic Rogue River

Class III+ Self-Support Three-Day, Three-Night Adventure!

Friday, October 25 - Monday, October 28

Fall is a perfect time to float the Rogue. The water will be cool, weather is usually mild, and the autumn colors will be fabulous! And we won’t need to win the lottery for a permit!

It’s expected we’ll have a range of paddling experience on this trip including first-timers. Tripcoordinator, Bruce has 13 Rogue paddles in the last four years. Many others have similar experiences. And we wish to share the experience with others.

While the Rogue is described as forgiving, you will need class III+ skills and some self-support experience. You will need to be confident in your ability, equipment, and gear because we will leave road access behind. If you are new to self-support, it is highly recommended you attend a trial workshop like our LCCC weekend in June;

The Wild and Scenic section can be described mostly as pool drop, class II to III+. We will bypass the class V drop Rainie Falls via the “Fish Ladder”. Another section, Mule Creek Canyon will offer up some strong eddy lines and boiling waters. And then Blossom Bar will be a large but short rock garden with one move described by many as class 2, with class 4 consequences. Like all LCCC trips, self-evaluation of your experience and abilities is needed.

The camping will start Friday night on the river at our put-in. We’ll rise early, eat a good breakfast, pack our boats, and say goodbye to our cars. Each of the three days we will paddle somewhere between 12 and 16 miles. River camping sites are a first come basis, but usually no problem. We will filter stream water and cook with backpacking stoves. (freeze dried type meals) Monday we will arrive at our takeout about noon, find our shuttled cars and drive home in time for a late dinner.

Look for the invite via our Google Group (after the June self-support weekend) to sign-up. Space will be limited. There will be some expense for car shuttles, currently $189 per car. We will try to carpool to help split this and fuel costs. Once signed up you will receive a spreadsheet to help with your gear, shared gear, and supplies.
