Membership Terms
LCCC memberships are good for a year. Please note that memberships are set to renew automatically. You can opt out of the annual renewal when prompted at the end of your membership, or cancel your membership at any time. The automatic renewal system helps your all volunteer board members cut down on administrative tasks; thanks for understanding!
Renew your membership, or join the LCCC as a PADDLER. This is the best choice if you live in the area and want to participate in day trips, weekend paddling events, or skills clinics. We'll ask you to sign the club's regular waiver. Please watch for a link in your membership confirmation email.
Renew your membership, or join the LCCC as a FRIEND. This is the best choice if you don't think you'll be paddling with us too much, but still want to access the club's online programming. If you do join us on the water one day, we'll have you sign a guest waiver.
Member Hall of Fame
The LCCC started in the 1960s as a marathon canoe club. Early members included Mike Keating, who is still a member today. Gradually, the club was infiltrated by members such as Dennis Deck, Paul Norman, Alex McNeily, Murray Johnson, Ken Keating, and Ted Housen who had an interest in canoeing whitewater. The club never looked back.
Tandem canoe-master Bill Jordens has run the Grand Canyon multiple times with multiple tandem partners and once in a solo canoe. Even more surprising, he’s run it in a kayak and raft—both of which were “learn and go.”
LCCC Safety Chair Teresa Gryder, one of the club’s most accomplished kayakers, grew up thinking she was amphibious. Since moving to Oregon in 2007, she has paddled more than 83 different Oregon river runs and become an editor/contributor to Soggy Sneakers.
Longtime Oregon kayaker and canoeist Rob Blickensderfer has over 55 years of paddling experience under his drysuit. In his 90s now, he’s still active on Class II/III day trips, as well as multi-day adventures.
Arctic adventurer Lee Sessions has explored over 25 Canadian Arctic rivers, including historic routes on the Hanbury, Hood, Thelon, Back (620 miles), Mara, Burnside, Coppermine, Dubawnt, Kazan, Nahanni, Thlewiaza, Ellice, and the Kuujjuua on Victoria Island. He was among the first modern recreational paddlers to descend the Arrowsmith and the Kellett to Pelly Bay, and the Lorillard to Daly Bay.
Whitewater Chair and longtime LCCC kayaker Denny Egner has personally organized and taken club members on over 250 river trips from 2013-2022. That’s nearly a month of paddling trips per year.
What members say about the LCCC
I was so glad to find the Lower Columbia Canoe Club. Every time I go on a club trip I’m struck by how little ego there is on the river. It’s just a group of nice people who love paddling and enjoy sharing their passion for the river. It’s refreshing. The club is my happy place.
I love the skills clinics. I have learned so much about canoeing from Mark Scantlebury over the years. Thank you for all you do!
This club is special. The people, the welcoming environment, the fact that they almost always stop for lunch! There’s a “leave your watch in the car” mentality that I really appreciate. This club is about the people and the relationships that develop on the water.
