River Safety Series
The Lower Columbia Canoe Club (LCCC) is pleased to announce a new five-part River Safety series. Guides and instructors are routinely trained on safety, but regular recreational paddlers can get years into their paddling life without any training. These talks are for you: regular paddlers.
FREE and open to the public, you do not need to be an LCCC member to participate in the online River Safety series. Join us via Zoom on alternating Tuesday nights, starting Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30 pm PST. [See the Zoom link at the bottom of the page.]
The River Safety Series is organized and hosted by Teresa Gryder, the LCCC’s Safety Chair, who has made it her mission to help paddlers manage the risks of being on the water. Guides, instructors and subject matter experts will share their vast knowledge and experience gained over decades on the river. Instead of learning the hard way, join us to hear their insights and stories, and let useful tips sink in so that you might lower your risks and prevent injuries and fatalities on the river.
The online River Safety series will culminate with the option to take a two-day, in-person river rescue course on either May 1-2 or May 8-9. Designed specifically for whitewater boaters: kayakers, rafters, cat boaters, SUP paddlers, river boarders, and canoeists, this course is offered in partnership with Wet Planet, certified by Sierra Rescue, and includes certification valid for 3 years. [See registration information at the bottom of the page.]

Two-Day, In-Person River Rescue Course, May 1-2 or May 8-9
The online River Safety series will culminate with a two-day, in-person river rescue course (May 1-2 or May 8-9) designed specifically for whitewater boaters: kayakers, rafters, cat boaters, SUP paddlers, river boarders, and canoeists. This course is offered in partnership with Wet Planet, certified by Sierra Rescue, and includes certification valid for 3 years.
This river rescue course emphasizes on-river scenarios in order to help students develop the ability to choose good actions when a river rescue becomes necessary. Taught by paddlers who spend a good portion of their lives on whitewater in a professional capacity, this course will focus on quick, efficient, low-tech techniques for rescue that utilize the basic gear that you are likely to carry with you on the river in your boat.
Cost: Typically $285 + tax/person; offered exclusively to Lower Columbia Canoe Club members at $228. If you are already a member of the LCCC you can register for the May 1-2 class HERE or the May 8-9 class HERE. Not yet a member? Join the LCCC, then register.
