Come practice your self-support skills on a familiar run. We’ll load our boats at Dodge Park in the afternoon of Saturday, April 15th and allow plenty of time for discussion about strategies for effectively packing your boat. We’ll be on a relaxed schedule so you can unpack and repack your boat as many times as necessary as you try to fit everything in.
Then we’ll shove off and paddle about half of the Dodge to Oxbow stretch on the Sandy River. Upon arrival at camp you’ll discover how well you packed by how dry your things are! And you’ll also learn quickly what you forgot to pack but wished you hadn’t.
This paddling day is offered as a complement to the online discussion the club held in February about self-support boating.
It’ll be a great way to dust off the cobwebs if it has been awhile since your last self-support trip, and an even better opportunity if you’ve never tried self-support boating before. The stakes on this trip will be really low and you’ll be surrounded by friends who can loan you propane, or a tent stake, or whatever it is you might have forgotten.
We’ll share more details about this event as we get closer via the club’s Google Group.
