Self-support boating means bringing your entire camp setup - from food, to tent, sleeping gear, camp chairs and more - in your boat, rather than relying on someone else (usually your raft friend) to haul your stuff down the river.
If you’ve never done a self-support trip before, the notion of packing everything you need into your kayak or canoe can be a little overwhelming. From what types of bags to pack things into, to how to distribute the weight in your boat, to whether you’ll be able to maneuver and roll a heavy boat, in this virtual discussion we’ll cover the basics of self-support boating.
Then, you’ll have the chance to put your knowledge to the test with a practice self-support run on the Sandy River (Dodge to Oxbow section, most likely).
