Did you miss it? You can watch this online discussion, and many others, on the club’s youtube channel HERE.
As a homework assignment to prepare you for this talk on heuristics and decision making, we suggest that you watch a 2020 movie called The Alpinist. It’s about Marc-Andres LeClerc, a young mountaineer who took free solo mountaineering to a level that previous masters of the sport had not imagined. His lack of fear in the face of objective risk raises a host of questions. We will discuss this and much more as we dig into risk assessment, fear management, and the paradoxes of the flow state.
Guests include Rainey Hoffman, lawyer and ACA board member, speaking on risk, Lee Baker, school counselor and paddling coach, speaking on fear, Darryl Knudsen, river savior extraordinaire, and the LCCC’s own Teresa Gryder, ND, providing stories and perspective about the Human Factor in river life.
