The BR is the ONLY slalom race that occurs near to Portland, Oregon. It is part of the Northwest Cup so the points you get here count toward the top regional prize!
EDIT: I have changed this post on the calendar many times. The race occurred when it was originally scheduled in late March with a turnout of ~20 in spite of cold and snow. My apologies to anyone who was mislead by this calendar. A clinic taught by slalom paddlers for recreational paddlers in plastic boats was planned for 4/8 but the water was high and rising contributing to uncertainty and a low turnout.
Registration for the race WAS IN MARCH. You can register on race day but you best be early and have an extra $10 in your pocket. Lots of boaters will hang out all day on Saturday and if you want to get some tips—or just to watch how others are approaching the gates—that is the day to show up.
The Bull Run Slalom doesn’t always occur on the weekend that it is scheduled. Water levels being too high, or too low, are grounds for rescheduling. Acceptable flows are 500-1800cfs on the Bull Run gauge.
If you are an intermediate or better paddler who is interested in honing your skills, any slalom clinic is an excellent opportunity to fine tune your boat handling and accumulate points in the NW Cup Series of races.
